What Kind of Gear Can You Rent in Iceland? 

That really depends on when you come to Iceland. 

Let me break it down by season 

Winter Clothing Rental  

️Here’s what we offer for winter clothing rental: 

Base Layers 

We don’t rent base layers, but we highly recommend bringing merino wool thermals. 

Mid Layers 

You can rent a warm, breathable fleece sweater at our store, perfect as an insulating mid-layer. 

Outer Layers 

• Winter Parka: Windproof, highly water-resistant, and warm. Built for extreme conditions. 

• Shell Jackets: We have a few available, but for winter, we strongly recommend the parka. 

• Outdoor Pants: Waterproof and windproof. Wear with thermals and/or sweatpants underneath for extra warmth. 

Boots  

Water-resistant boots are essential. Our hiking boots are: 

• Gore-Tex & leather 

• Mid/high top (ideal for glacier hikes) 

• Grippy soles 

• Ankle support 

It’s very important that the boots are mid or high top, since you want to prevent any snow from getting in.  

Also, if you’re doing a glacier hike, then you need boots that are mid or high top. 

Accessories we rent 

• Beanie – A must-have 

• Gloves – Thick winter gloves 

• Crampons – especially important December–March 

• Hiking Poles – Great for icy trails 

• Hand Warmers – For sale in-store 

Summer Clothing Rental  

Now, a lot of people hear summer and think ‘shorts, a t-shirt and a thin jacket’ 

And that type of thinking is going to get you in trouble.  

Don’t be fooled by “summer”. Iceland can still be windy, rainy, and cold.

Base Layers 

Merino wool thermals are still recommended. Yes, even in July. 

And again, sadly, we don’t rent those. 

Mid Layers 

The fleece sweater is perfect for the summer. It’s warm, so you might not have to wear anything else if the weather is decent.  

Outer Layers 

• Summer Parka – Warm, windproof, and water-resistant. Best for people who are prone to cold. 

• Shell Jacket – Lightweight, breathable, windproof. Best for active travelers and hikers. 

• Insulated Raincoat – 100% waterproof and warm, but not breathable (best for sightseeing, not long hikes) 

Outdoor Pants 

Water-resistant and windproof. Wear thermals underneath for extra warmth. 

Boots (Summer) 

Even in summer, renting hiking boots in Iceland is a smart move. Again, ours are: 

• Gore-Tex & leather 

• Regularly waxed for water resistance 

• Mid/high top 

• Designed for glacier hikes and unpredictable weather 

Accessories 

• Beanie – Still essential 

• Gloves – Medium-thick gloves available 

• Hiking Poles – Optional but useful for longer treks
